Competence Center 5G.NRW

The Competence Center 5G.NRW began its work in June 2019. The consortium, which is funded by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia, consists of four partners: Under the consortium leadership of SIKoM+ at the University of Wuppertal, the University of Duisburg-Essen, the Technical University of Dortmund and the FIR at RWTH Aachen University are involved. The consortium accompanies the introduction of 5G technology, examines strengths and weaknesses in practice and derives realistic recommendations for the use of the fifth generation of mobile communications in various fields of application. In addition, the Competence Center is responsible for the accompanying scientific research on the 37 state-wide projects from the state government's 5G.NRW funding competition and on the mobile communications coordinators active in the state.

The central goal of CC5G.NRW is to contribute to the development of NRW as a lead market for 5G. The focus is on new solutions for companies and municipalities in the application of 5G, as well as research into social issues relating to security, social inclusion and sustainability. In this context, innovation potentials and obstacles are identified, systemic competencies are developed and expanded, and potentials of 5G are made accessible. At the same time, the 5G.NRW network is being expanded as an open innovation platform for all stakeholders and their concerns. A deeper insight into the work and the service portfolio of CC5G.NRW is provided by the internationally established information and communication hub 5g.nrw.
