Biography
Tim Raulf has been a research assistant at the Institute for Technologies and Management of Digital Transformation (TMDT) at the University of Wuppertal since October 2024. As part of the "Competence Center 5G.NRW" (CC5G.NRW) project funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection and Energy (MWIKE) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, he coordinates cooperation between various stakeholders and analyses the social impact of the fifth generation of mobile communications.
His academic career began at the University of Wuppertal, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Sociology. Already during his studies, he developed a strong interest in the research of digital spaces and their influence on social inequalities, the city as a geographical and social context as well as quantitative research methods with a special focus on multi-level analyses. He was able to combine and deepen these interests in various academic projects and in his work as a student and research assistant.
In his master's thesis, he investigated the influence of digital capital on neighbourhood-specific social capital. He showed how digital resources and technologies can influence social cohesion in the neighbourhood. His current research focuses in particular on investigating social disparities in the context of digitalisation and its technological foundations. One focus is on the urban digital twin and its influence on the digital and social transformation of cities. At the same time, as part of CC5G.NRW, he is looking at synergies and innovation potential arising from cooperation between research, industry and public bodies in 5G technology.
